The first United States Social Forum will happen in less than a year and the northeast is getting together to make concrete plans for organizing toward the USSF.

Building on the global movement begun in Brazil in 2001, the USSF will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, June 27 to July 1, 2007, by bringing together grassroots organizations from communities of color, the environmental justice movement, the antiwar movement, trade unions, women's organizations, indigenous communities, youth organizations and thinkers of all progressive stripes. Planning for the USSF is being coordinated nationwide with strong regional participation. Visit the USSF website at www.USSF2007.org to find out how register or propose programs.

After months of conference calls and email exchange, the northeast regional group is having its second strategy meeting December 9th, 2006. (the first was September 23, 2006 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Organizers from DC. to Maine will be attending. We want you to join us too.

We will discuss how to get organizations from the Northeast involved in programs for the USSF, outreach plans, fundraising ideas, and regional transporation coordination to Atlanta, among other things. But most importantly this meeting will allow all of us to strengthen the connections between our organizations, so we can effectively bring
all of our skills to take on the tasks we shall face over the next nine months.

There is no fee to participate in the planning meeting of the United States Social Forum Northeast Regional Group. However, we ask that you let us know if you plan on attending, so we can send you the logistics for the weekend.
