The first United States Social Forum will happen in less than a year and the northeast is getting together to make concrete plans for organizing toward the USSF. Building on the global movement begun in Brazil in 2001, the USSF will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, June 27 to July 1, 2007, by bringing together grassroots organizations from communities of color, the environmental justice movement, the antiwar movement, trade unions, women's organizations, indigenous communities, youth organizations and thinkers of all progressive stripes. After months of conference calls and email exchange, the northeast regional group is having its second strategy meeting December 9th, 2006. (the first was September 23, 2006 at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Organizers from DC. to Maine will be attending. We want you to join us too. We will discuss how to get organizations from the Northeast involved in programs for the USSF, outreach plans, fundraising ideas, and regional transporation coordination to Atlanta, among other things.
