NorthEast Regional Goals

USSF Northeast Region Goal:

The northeast organizing will utilize outreach, fundraising and programming activities for the USSF 2007 to deepen collaboration between grassroots organizing projects, movements and social change activism in the region.
Objectives:

(1) Programming of the USSF

a. The regional organizing effort will coordinate at least 4 program and plenary-type events at the USSF that reflect (i) most of the states in the region (ii) involve grassroots projects in communities of color, the working classes and women.

b. The regional organizing effort, in coordination with the programming committee of the USSF, will solicit at least 20 programs involving 3 or more organizations from the region.

c. The events and plenaries will reflect the themes of the USSF.

(2) Attendance at the USSF

a. In association with the outreach committee of the USSF, the regional organizing effort will try to generate at least 2,000 early registrants from the northeast for the USSF, with a goal of ultimately getting 4,000 attendees from the region.

b. The outreach needed to generate the registrants will reflect the organizing priorities and thematic agendas of the USSF.

c. The regional organizing effort will carry out fundraising activities and coordinate transportation planning to ensure financial support for at least 500 grassroots activists from the northeast can attend the USSF.

(3) Generating Public Awareness of the USSF

a. The regional effort will coordinate with regional & local social fora, including the Maine Social Forum and the Eastern Massachusetts Social Forum. The region will organize a Northeast Social Forum after the USSF to build on the USSF's achievements.

b. The regional effort will work with at least 5 regional delegations attending the WSF in Nairobi to generate public awareness about the social forum process.

c. An effort will be made to achieve the following media objectives:

(i) 2 articles, op-eds or editorials on the USSF by January 2007 in major mainstream regional publications;

(ii) 15 regional radio show discussions on mainstream and alternative networks or stations;

(iii) 30 organizational newsletter and website hits (references) by January 2007.

d. All organizations participating in the northeast effort should get their organizations to link to the USSF2007.org website

(4) Fundraising

a. Organizing 10 regional fundraising events to raise $3,000 for transportation assistance for the USSF.

b. Organizing a regional fundraising drive to support the central USSF effort (to defray organizer and event costs). Amount to be determined in consultation with the Fundraising Committee of the USSF.

c. Recruit [number to be determined] organization sponsors (i.e. $2,000 - $5,000) from organizations.
