Organization Description

The mission of UNCC is to create programs for the disadvantaged to acquire workplace skills and to provide opportunities for inner city youth to participate in sports, educational, cultural, and community enrichment programs. These programs are designed to build confidence, self-esteem, determination and self-respect. UNCC, an organization of shared vision, resources and planning, across public and private boundaries, is dedicated to improving the life conditions of those persons who are caught in a cycle of poverty, dependency, and persistent social and economic disability, and is committed to the development and self-actualization of individuals in need.

Session Description

Current and former Media Professionals/Community Media Activists will explore the following topics:

- How to get your stories out through corporate media
- How to establish relationships with reporters and media professionals
- Workflow, structure and project pipelines: An Inside Look
- How does a story make it to air? To I-Report?
- Inside scoop on how mainstream media works
- How can we improve independent content?

And the following during the collaboration session:
- Grassroots media and Citizen Journalism
- CNN's I-Report, Fox's UReport
- IMC/Indymedia
- Best Practices/Tips
- How to get involved: Be a Newsgatherer

** PLEASE NOTE ** we are requesting the full allottment of four hours for this workshop, and are flexible for scheduling - can split over two days as necessary.
