US Navy occupied 3/4 of the island since the 1940's for bombing and other military practice activities... create horrific environmental, health, socio-economic crisis; after decades of struggle, a well organized, militant campaign of non violent civil disobedience stopped the Navy and forced it to leave Vieques on May 1st 2003... Discussion about environmental injustice/racism; colonialism; international solidarity; building grass roots movement; creaty unity in highly divided society; influence of artists and religious leaders in the struggle... participation of women, youth and labor unions..
