Session Description

For many of us, the urban lifestyles we lead seem abundant. But rarely are we challenged to consider where our basic needs come from, where they go after we use them, or whose homelands are being compromised in the process. These types of questions are rarely asked in classrooms, by the media or on standardized tests, and yet they are central to each and every one of our lives.

Join coordinators of the Native Movement Urban Lifeways Project in Flagstaff, Arizona for stories and images from Arizona to India to Aotearoa. See how young people are strengthening their communities and reclaiming their education through creating media, protecting sacred sites, and building community food systems.

The presentation will include short films from Outta Your Backpack Media, an indigenous youth-run project of Native Movement as well as slide shows of youth-driven urban agriculture projects, zero-waste initiatives, and sacred sites protection currently underway in communities around the world.

Additional Needs:
LCD Projector
Sound system for projector
DVD player (if possible)
