Hundreds of workshops, presentations, performances, and debates on ALL issues—ranging from poverty, racism, sexism, homophobia, able-ism, xenophobia, and ageism—will help shape future community organizing across the country following the US Social Forum next month!

In addition to these movement-led workshops, there will be six dynamic plenary sessions over the five days. They are as follows:

Gulf Coast Reconstruction in the Post-Katrina Era

War, Militarism and the Prison Industrial Complex

Indigenous Voices: From the Heart of Mother Earth

Immigrant and Migrant Rights in a Global Society

Liberating Gender and Sexuality: Integrating Gender and Sexual Justice Across Our Movements

Workers’ Rights in the Global Economy

The U.S. Social Forum is highlighting these six struggles in plenary dialogues because they represent key movement-building opportunities for organizers and activists in this country. These struggles and the lessons learned inform all of our work. They inspire us to develop a critical consciousness and a bold vision!

Funding the Movement!
We need your help raising $100,000
in grassroots income by June 28
for the US Social Forum!!

Update: Since we began this grassroots fundraising project on April 23rd, we’ve raised more than $96,000 in registrations and donations thanks to individuals and groups like YOU who believe another world is possible!

Here’s how YOU can help!

1. Register for the Social Forum NOW! Momentum is growing. Atlanta can expect anywhere from 5,000 to more than 20,000 folks to participate in the first-ever US Social Forum. There are large delegations and caravans coming from across the country; from New York to California. Register now to ensure your spot at the social forum.

2. Make a Donation! Give what you can. You can donate online or send in a check by mail. Give a thousand dollars. Give a hundred dollars. Give one dollar!! In a grassroots movement every dollar matters. Gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated.

3. Encourage Others to Give! Please pass this e-mail on to every friend, family member, and freedom fighter you know! You can also throw a house party to raise money for the US Social Forum! This historic gathering is owned and operated by movement builders across the United States!

From June 27 through July 1, 2007, one of the most important political events in recent history will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. The United States Social Forum (USSF) will bring together generations of movement organizers and activists who realize that it is crucial that we come together to define a truly alternative political vision for the United States – a vision that unites us in a common cause against the exploitation of our labor, the poisoning of our environment, the militarization of our borders, the theft of our lands, and the invasion of other nations. If Another World is Possible, Another U.S. is Necessary!

Together, we can build a Broad-based and Self-funded movement!

We can do it with your help.

We have a $900,000 budget for the USSF, much of that will come from registrations in the coming months. But in order to meet some of our immediate needs, we need your support now! We need to secure venues, pay staff, print brochures and programs; the small, often overlooked details that will make the USSF an inspiring and empowering event.

Other than a committed core of foundations that understand the importance of building a grassroots movement in the U.S., we are relying on the power of organizers, workers, activists and grassroots movement building to provide the resources that will make this event a reality. From the Mississippi Delta to the villages of Alaska to inner cities East and West to the banks of the Rio Grande to the shores of the Pacific and Caribbean Islands - this event begins and ends with us. We are the ones we have been waiting for!

On behalf of the Resource Mobilization Working Group of the US Social Forum, we thank you for your time, consideration, and support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In Solidarity,

The Resource Mobilization Working Group of the United States Social Forum
