Organization Description

Rebecca Trotzky Sirr is a medical student who works with a variety of radical and progressive medical organizations. She recently worked in Barrio Adentro in Venezuela under a Fulbright grant.

Session Description

Under the Chavez administration, Venezuela has transformed its health care system to prioritize primary care in low income communities. Barrio Adentro provides free health care in poor neighborhoods. What are the lessons that Americans can learn from the Venezuelan experience? Can the US health system be transformed to put people before profits? What role will health care practioners and community activists play? What are some of the revolutionary medical schools like? Hear ideas and experiences from panelists who worked with Barrio Adentro.
