Theatre for Resistance, Education and Empowerment is a form of using arts as political tool to educate and empower people for political action against social oppression. Based on Popular and Political Education, by Paulo Freire, and Theatre of the Oppressed, by Augusto Boal, we aim to engage the public in performances and workshops for both reaching critical consciousness and for organizing and empower communities to act – not react – by facing the challenges of power and changing societies. The Board of Directors and Advisors is formed by a group of social activists and theatre Jokers from the Northwest engaged in community-based work, actions to end torture, Immigrants workers rights, Youth and Women critical leadership, and others connected issues.
