This session will be on: June 28, 2007 - 10:30am It will be held at: NOT ADA - Youth Plus Class room at the Trinity United Methodist Church View scheduleOrganization DescriptionTo be updated Session DescriptionWe're interested on having a session dedicated to U.S. students and popular participation, beyond the limits of voting. Students around the country have been on hunger strikes, sit-ins, massive protest and etc. on behalf of workers on their campuses, communities, and themselves as students. It would be great to have a session in which young people can discuss direct action, and its merits especially in a society like ours where democracy is often limited to elections. The session would discuss ways to educate students about direct action, connect students interested in popular participation, grassroots organizing, and discuss some of the issues that may call for such a movement among students. I think it is important that students have this conversation and organize themselves to confront some of these daunting economic and social issues facing the world today. Campus Progress is a center left organization based in Washington D.C. that I think could have bring some input and a large following of progressive students around the country.
