Organization Description

To support the creation and presentation of original art which is rooted in a particular community of place, tradition or spirit. As cultural workers we strive to be allies in the elimination of all forms of oppression. ROOTS is committed to social and economic justice and the protection of the natural world and addresses these concerns through its programs and services.

Session Description

In this session, Alternate ROOTS members and participants of The Katrina Project will talk about the role of the artist/citizen in the throws of disaster. Artists will talk about The Katrina Project as both an artistic response and an organizing tool to connect internally displaced citizens to the ongoing reconstruction efforts on the Gulf Coast.
