This session will be on: June 29, 2007 - 10:30am It will be held at: SAT FILMS ONLY - Mainstage room at the Seven Stages Theater View scheduleOrganization DescriptionSince late 1994, The Bread is Rising Poetry Collective has spread consciousness through the word in numerous appearances in performance, in festivals and gatherings, on radio and public access cable, across the United States and Canada. Currently in the midst of its 10th anniversary celebration, the Collective continues its work with a regular open stage series - The Julia DeBurgos-George Woodbey-Rev. Pedro Pietri People's Cafe - held in Loisaida (Lower East Side) of New York City.
The Collective has performed in: libraries, cultural and community centers, gatherings and festivals including Do the Right Thing Festival (Brooklyn, NY); Great Labor Arts Exchange, National Labor College (Silver Spring , MD); July 4th Diversity Day (Morristown, NJ); Bimbo Rivas Tribute at CHARAS (Loisaida, NY); Penn Avenue Festival Rocks Against Racism (Pittsburgh , PA), and bookstores, museums, campuses and schools and places of worship.
The Collective has also performed on radio stations WBAI, WPFW, WHCR, WRSU, CHRY, CKLN and CIUT.
The Collective hosts We The People Speak, a weekly show aired Saturdays 10 pm on Manhattan Neighborhood Network (http://www.mnn.org).
The Collective is a member group of The Federation of Worker Writers and Community Publishers, based in Stoke-on-Trent, England ( http://www.thefwwcp.org.uk).
