Session Description

The Court of Women has become a traditional event at the World Social Forum and at regional and local social forums all over the world. The Women's Working Group Court of Women will hold court over three human rights abuse topics. These three topics will focus on human rights abuses in the U.S. The topics are:
1. Violence Against Women
2. Hurricane Katrina
3. The Criminal Justice Systems, Federal, State, and Local
We will merge U.S. immigration issues throughout these three topics.
The Court of Women requests a four hour time block and scheduling for day 1 of the social forum.
We will divide the four hour time block into 3 sessions on the topics mentioned, with cultural interludes between each as well as an interlude to initiate the Court and one to end the Court. The interludes are designed as musical, dance, poetical, and dramatic readings in keeping with the solemnity and gravity of the Court and its session topics and to aid in transition from topic to topic and from the Court's proceedings to its conclusion. Following the Court the WWG Court of Women will draw up strategies and outcomes documents to be used to further the goals of the Court in various venues such as The United Nations, U.S. federal. state, and local governments, with feminist organizations throughout the U.S, and globally, as well as other avenues.
