Organization Description

NALACC: The National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC) is a network of approximately 75 community-based organizations led by Latin American and Caribbean immigrants. NALACC member organizations are working to improve quality of life in their communities, both in the United States and in countries of origin. NALACC seeks to build transnational leadership capacity and increase immigrant civic participation, so that immigrants can advocate effectively for public policies that address the root causes of migration, as well as addressing the challenges faced by immigrants in the United States. To date, this latter work has focused on efforts to reform US immigration policies to make them more humane and effective. Over time, NALACC aspires to become a nationally and internationally known voice of organized Latino and Caribbean immigrant communities in the U.S. In particular, NALACC hopes to become an entity recognized for its ability to articulate the challenges faced by transnational immigrant communities, as well as viable solutions to those challenges.

Youth in Power

The workshop only has one objective to bring an open conscious proposal to the youth. Using as examples the problems that we encounter in our communities as well as the whole world. We are the protagonists of our own future. We the youth, are the future and it is necessary to have a clear vision of where we intend to lead this country. Therefore it is crucial to have workshops where the youth can get involved in the political atmosphere. That is why we need to communities to be more united and the youth has an important role in developing that unity.

The purpose of the workshop is the get the youth involved in the political atmosphere in their communities. Revive our cultures that little by little have been vanishing, at the same time we need to learn about the struggles that we are all facing in our communities do that we could be able create a strong and effective support network.

There are times that we the youth feel that we are the only ones that are in the struggle for a better world in which there is respect and dignity for all humankind. Therefore making this workshop of political socialization and doing an analysis of what is going on in our different communities we connect all the youth and offer motivation and inspiration to continue in the struggle.

The workshop will be done in English and Spanish.

In the past year will have seen an immense youth civil rights movement. However at the same time this youth is motivated by basic ideas of what civil rights are, we need an educated movement so that the society could be inspired by correct and real ideals.

To have major impact on the youth we need a different work strategy, where we can directly involve the youth with our communities for example:

• The importance of lobbying
• The importance of voting
• Education
• How to have a community organized and at the same time how to keep our cultures alive within our communities, etc.

Etc.
