Organization Description

Circle Connections is a national organization that helps individuals and organizations create, sustain and connect Circles within the United States and Canada. It was founded a year ago to provide technical assistance to individuals and groups in creating equalitarian settings for all people. We serve on the USSF Women's Working Group and hosted the USSF Women's Planning Retreat. We are a resource hub that makes it easy for Circles to be accessible to one another. Our goal is to provide a state-of-the-art system for connecting circles in a trusted environment, enabling circle-to-circle networking and collaboration. Working in partnership with other circle organizations and networks, we support and maintain the connection of women’s and men's circles everywhere. Through our resources, links, postings, circle trainings, retreats and expos, we help strengthen communication --circle to circle. We are working in partnership with many non-governmental organizations, the more the better.

Session Description

Circle Connections, The Peace Company, Soroptimist Internation and Victim Services of Miami are partnering to present a 2-hour workshop called "The Journey to Sofia, Bulgaria, May 2010". This Experiential workshop is for women and men of all ages. Youth are encouraged to participate. We will discuss plans for the Women's World Conference that will be held May, 2010, in Sofia Bulgaria and involve participants in the planning through Circle discussions and self-organizing Action Circles. The 5 Objectives of the Women's World Conference are: 1. Actualizing the United Nations Platform for Action established at Beijing-1995, 2. Achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, 3. Attending the Environment, 4. Affirming the Men, 5. Advancing Young People. We will discuss the latest plans from the city of Sofia and the government of Bulgaria. We will brainstorm how we can involve grassroots women and women's organizations, United Nations, governments, foundations and corporations. We will empower attendees to get involved and self-organize into Action Circles based on their interest. We will provide Circle technology along with practice in forming Action Circles. We will provide handouts and other resources necessary to gain the self-confidence and skills in creating Action Circles back home. We will provide networks for on-going support as well as connect Action Circles to share "best practices", resources and coalesce power. This workshop is related to the "Connecting Women's Action Circles" with an emphasis on the World Conference on Women.
