Organization Description

Korean Americans against War and Neoliberalism (KAWAN) is a national coalition of U.S.-based Korean organizations that have come together to oppoose the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and stop the expansion of a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek Korea. KAWAN was formed in Spring 2006 and has chapters in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, and Washington D.C.

Session Description

In this workshop we will analyze the Bush administration's strategy of
negotiating bilateral free trade agreements (FTA), assess current and upcoming
FTAs, and develop strategies to coordinate various efforts to stop bilateral
FTAs.

This workshop is a 4 hour session in two parts:
1. The first half is a popular education workshop on defining neoliberalism,
tracing the history of U.S. free trade agreements, and understanding the
impact of free trade broadly; and
2. The second half is a panel discussion with farmer leaders from Colombia,
Korea, and the U.S., including German Bedoya, Coordinador Nacional Agrario in
Colombia, and Sin Moon Hee, General Secretary of the Korean Women Peasants
Association.
