Organization Description

SOUL (the School of Unity and Liberation) is a school to build a movement. We work to build an anti-imperialist movement by strengthening the leadership of young organizers and left mass-based organizations rooted in oppressed communities. We believe this work will contribute to advancing powerful people’s movements that can challenge global exploitation and oppression while creating alternative systems based on a just distribution of resources and work. Over the past decade, SOUL has trained thousands of young people from hundreds of organizations in organizing, political analysis, and facilitation through programs like SOUL Summer School, Training for Trainers, the National Youth Organizing Training Institute, and more.

Session Description

Trans Feminism

This TransFeminism workshop will explore concepts, practices and common challenges in building up feminist trans identity, politic and our participation/leadership within anti-imperialist movement. Recognizing feminism as a core principle and practice, we wish to explore our realities that rest at the intersections of oppression/exploitation and the real opportunities for healing and growth that exist for our survival, our communities survival and the growth and development of anti-imperialist movement.

The facilitators are coming with knowledge gained from our lived experiences as masculine gender queer/two-spirit poor POC culture workers, consciousness raisers and organizers as well as the wisdom our communities have blessed us with to carry into this space. It is an honor to engage in the practice of building trans feminist practice and to engage gender queer (however defined!) and trans folks around feminist practices. Another World is Possible!
