This session will be on: June 28, 2007 - 10:30am It will be held at: First Floor Multi-Purpose Room room at the Hammonds House View scheduleOrganization DescriptionMalachi Larrabee-Garza is representing SOUL.
SOUL (the School of Unity and Liberation) is a school to build a movement.
We work to build an anti-imperialist movement by strengthening the leadership of young organizers and left mass-based organizations rooted in oppressed communities. We believe this work will contribute to advancing powerful people’s movements that can challenge global exploitation and oppression while creating alternative systems based on a just distribution of resources and work.
Over the past decade, SOUL has trained thousands of young people from hundreds of organizations in organizing, political analysis, and facilitation through programs like SOUL Summer School, Training for Trainers, the National Youth Organizing Training Institute, and more.

Proposal Demographicsidentify as women identify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gendered, queer) identify as people of color are artists/cultural workers Session DescriptionDeveloping Revolutionary Consciousness Working with a group of people to collectively engage in consciousness raising can be a very complicated process. This process must start with how people see and understand the world we live in,—but then what? This session will use popular/interactive methods to engage participants in exploring “frameworks of analysis” that will give participants concrete tools to take back and apply to their work. These frameworks are based in the root causes (capitalism, white supremacy, colonialism) of our conditions (poverty, environmental racism, incarceration, wack education…) building upon participants’ lived experiences and the impacts of those conditions as mechanism of control upon our land, culture, mind, body and spirit. These frameworks have been very effective working with diverse groups of oppressed peoples who are doing different types of political work and who are at different stages of political development.
