Organization Description

The Tikkun Community arose in 2002 when readers of TIKKUN Magazine asked to be connected to each other in order to discuss and advance the ideas for healing and transforming the world that appeared in the magazine. We are an international community of people of many faiths calling for social justice and political freedom in the context of new structures of work, caring communities, and democratic social and economic arrangements. We seek to influence public discourse in order to inspire compassion, generosity, non-violence and recognition of the spiritual dimensions of life.

Session Description

Often the antiwar movement is so focused on the negative role the United States is taking now in world affairs that we neglect to discuss what a positive role for the U.S. might look like. As a result, the media and middle America can dismiss us as hopeless pessimists and naysayers. The peace movement needs a vibrant, positive vision of an America we could all be proud of, as well as strategies for incorporating that vision into all of our actions.

In this workshop, Rabbi Michael Lerner will lead a discussion of an America rooted in shared spiritual values of love, compassion, kindness, generosity, and ethical and ecological sensitivity. Through guided meditation, singing, lecture, and discussion, participants will develop concrete action steps for popularizing such a vision and mobilizing people to support it.

The workshop will be in English with handouts provided.
