This session will be on: June 29, 2007 - 3:30pm It will be held at: NOT ADA - Sunshine Class room at the Trinity United Methodist Church View scheduleOrganization DescriptionThe League of Young Voters is a national organization that supports young people to build power to solve problems in our communities. We work with young people who have been shut out of the political process to make politics fun, engaging, relevant, and meaningful.
We register voters, write and distribute voter guides, and lobby elected officials about issues that affect us ‘cause we want a progressive governing majority in our lifetime. We also like to have fun, throw parties and club nights, and laugh.
Proposal Demographicsidentify as women identify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gendered, queer) identify as people of color are 25 years old or younger are immigrants (not born in U.S.) are artists/cultural workers are diasabled are 65 years or older Session DescriptionDisenfranchisement can easily lead to disenchantment. But don't let that stop you. While many people on the left may not identify with a political party or feel shut out by the political process, when push comes to shove VOTING is still one of the most viable ways to create change. Whatever the cause you represent year-after-year, when election time rolls around use your numbers to swing or win elections. Learn the importance of using your networks to create strong voting blocs and convincing them of their power. In this session, get hands-on experience figuring out how to create voter guides that address the needs of your community. Participants will leave with the know-how and resources to include voting in their organization's savvy, dynamic strategy, even if they hate voting. This workshop will be conducted in English.
