The reasons (below) given for the selection of Atlanta as the site of this event demonstrate the blind ignorance of over zealous activists who loose sight of the truth in an effort to forward their own misguided cause. I am from the South, and from Atlanta, and anyone who knows the truth about this city will attest that there is likely no better place for any minority to take advantage of the progress made over the past century. Yes, there is a history of oppression in the South, but we have moved on. The majority of racial issues in the South are the result of constant atagonization and prejudice misconceptions from outside the South. I have witnessed much greater instances of prejudice, injustice, and racism in the "enlightened" North than I ever have here. The constant attack on the South only furthers this argument. If you would like to learn what the real South is about, please do so. We will welcome you with open arms. Southern hospitality is one stereotype that we gladly embrace. If your intent is to come to our cities, to our homes, and demean, belittle and attack us based solely on your own misconceptions, then we kindly ask you to reconsider. Why the South? To win nationally, we must win the US South. The Southern site of the USSF marks a new moment in the US movement for social and economic justice. Project South believes “as the South goes, so goes the nation”. These words, spoken by DuBois, ring true in every moment of American history. The roots of oppression, injustice, exploitation and social control run deep in Southern soil. The US South has also cultivated determined and consistent fights for indigenous self-determination, black freedom, working class emancipation, and human liberation. Hosting the US Social Forum in the US South builds political potency for a powerful movement to challenge white supremacy, imperial domination, worldwide genocide, ecocide, and all other manifestations of global capitalism.
