TypeUnclassified Detailed DescriptionFundraising Idea. see http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ something like this where we could get folks to pay per pixel and upload their logo to the site... the more automated the better. like...paypal, then upload logo w/ link to their site themselves... "Wanna' help out the forum AND get something out of it? Pay 1 dollar per pixel and show the world you're going to the ussf!" In the end we'd have a place that visually represents the forum w/ the logos of orgs and people going with links to their websites... I confess i really don't like this idea.
Pixel ads are basically a commercial, link farming tool, often used by the web equivalent of spammers. I'd rather that the USSF not take on those connotations.
If we automate the process fully, we run into other problems: What if the Protest Warriors buy a big shiny swath of pixels? What if Walmart wants to? Do we really want their money? Do we really want to link to these folks? (i'm not linking to them here like i normally would because i don't particularly want to give them extra credibility).
On a more pragmatic level, the original pixel ad site was a novel idea that succeeded because of its novelty. I don't know that there's been another one that has enjoyed even marginally similar success. Then again, i might not know, simply because i don't really follow the "links for dollars" trade press much either.
